Lee Berg custom hippo ivory, Gibeon meteorite knife. The blade, ornately carved guard, throat and pommel nut on this "Plug Bayonet" styled knife are all made from natural Gibeon Meteorite. All these pieces show nice crisp "Widmanstatten" lines. The natural troilite inclusions in meteorite material are very common, and only add to its authenticity. The plug bayonet style handle is made from an ancient piece of hippo ivory along with a piece of ebony trim. The old ivory has a couple of hairline cracks that were there when Lee made the knife and only add to the character of the knife. Gibeon Meteorite pieces like these are getting expensive and harder to find on the market today, the Namibian Government banned the export of any meteorite material from its country several years ago when they suddenly realized that their meteorite field has almost been picked clean. Gibeon Meteorite material is the most sought after meteorites for blade material, parts and jewelery because of their beautiful Widmanstatten lines and their high resistance to rust and corrosion. Blade length 5.25" OAL: 10". Fantastic craftsmanship perfect fit and finish. This knife has never been used and is in mint condition. Zipper pouch included no sheath.
