RARE VINTAGE AURUM ETCHINGS BOWIE #293

RARE VINTAGE AURUM ETCHINGS BOWIE #293 - Price: $625.00
Aurum Etchings: Sons of the Republic Commemorative Bowie Knife with Pecan case lined with red velvet. The knife measures over 15" with a blade length of 10 1/8" and is made of stainless steel. The intricate detailed scenes on both sides are stunning. The handle is probably ebony and is made from one piece. One piece brass guard and pommel with the number 030 on the guard. I don't know who the knife maker is or was but this is top of the line work especially for 1976. Knife is near mint and the case is in excellent condition except for a hole in the velvet where the point rest and a few scratches. The case is heavy duty and very well made tongue and groove construction no screws or nails. The lid has a metal plate that is etched REPUBLIC OF TEXAS SERIES "SONS OF THE REPUBLIC" with pictures of Steven F. Austin, Sam Houston, Dwight Eisenhower, and Lyndon B. Johnson. This Bowie is one of 4 in the Republic set series. Here is what is probably the most intricately highly detailed knife made in 1976 by Aurum Etchings when it was at its peak. One of the knives from this series was giving by Aurum owner Samuel Shortes to the President of the United States Ronald Reagan when he was in office and is displayed in the Presidential Museum & not for sale. Another one of the knives in this series was purchased by John Wayne. A set of 4 of these knives has sold for as high as 10,000.00 previously. Sam with his company revolutionised the process of deep acid etching back in the 1970's and his work was highly regarded and received wide acclaim. He later set up the Buck knives etching facility in California. The knife for sale was the 30th knife in the series. I am not sure how many were made.
